Completed as part of the Meridian Parks & Recreation Master Planning effort, a primary design objective for South Meridian Regional Park was to develop an illuminated softball complex to host regional tournaments. Concepts played off the curves of the outfield fences to create design interest and a dynamic progression of spaces within this long, somewhat narrow 77-acre site.
Other active recreation elements included flexibly configured turf sports fields for soccer and lacrosse, smaller ball diamonds for seniors and youth, and courts for tennis, pickleball, sand volleyball, and basketball.
The plan included playgrounds and splash pads, as well as public art themed around softball and area history. A large pond created a strong entry statement while also offering opportunities for picnicking, fishing, and passive recreation.
BRECKON landdesign completed an initial site analysis of the property and led the community input component of the master planning process, including public meeting facilitation.
